To ensure the project’s success, it is important to us to involve all stakeholders and maintain an open dialogue with them. Political responsibility is divided among the various agencies, and the interests of the fishing industry and nature conservation differ. As scientists, we maintain a neutral stance and aim to ground the discussion in objective, data-driven facts.

The Biogeography and Sports Ecology research group investigates interactions between humans and the environment. Various projects involve studying wildlife activity using camera traps.

The Bavarian Forest is one of the key distribution areas of the Eurasian otter in Bavaria. Experience with otter monitoring and management already exists here. The planned experimental work is to be carried out, among other places, in the wildlife enclosure of the Bavarian Forest National Park.

The LfU is the initiator and funder of the project. It already conducts and coordinates programs to monitor otters using camera traps and genetic analysis.
